Today Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a cut in excise duty by Rs 1.50 while OMCs were expected to absorb another Re 1. Therefore, a total of Rs 2.50 will be cut in both petrol and diesel prices.

No increase in VAT on fuels since 2016: Delhi government

"After January 19, 2016, there has been no increase in the VAT on petrol and diesel. However, on May 7, 2016, the government had reduced the VAT on diesel from 18 per cent to 16.75 per cent ," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia informed the Assembly in a written reply during the ongoing session

According to the sources, preliminary scrutiny indicated that several newly created LLPs and HUFs as well as proprietary firms have claimed transitional credit for which they were not eligible. The CBEC has already asked chief commissioners to scrutinise all transitional credit claims of over Rs 1 crore. As part of transition to GST last July, taxpayers were allowed to file Form TRAN-1 and avail tax credit on the basis of closing balance of the credit declared in the last return under the pre-GST regime.
