Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to become the premier once again with a massive victory against the opposition. Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections is currently on. The final results are, however, expected only by late evening due to tallying of voter-verified paper audit trail slips with EVM count for the first time. Over 8,000 candidates were in the fray for 542 seats. As many as 67.11 per cent of the 90.99 crore electors had cast their vote in the seven-phase elections. This was the highest ever voter turnout in Indian parliamentarian elections. For the first time in a Lok Sabha election, results of voting machines will be matched with slips generated by paper trail machines. Watch this video to know more.

The BJP has established comfortable lead on 58 seats in Uttar Pradesh while the SP-BSP-RLD alliance is leading only on 21 seats. The Congress continues to lead only on the Rae Bareli seat where UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is a candidate. In Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading by over 2.5 lakh votes. His nearest rival is SP`s Shalini Yadav as Congress` Ajay Rai is a very distant third. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was way ahead of SP candidate Poonam Sinha in Lucknow. In Amethi, Smriti Irani continued to lead over Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Bhojpuri actor and BJP candidate Ravi Kishan was leading by over one lakh votes in Gorakhpur after five rounds. In Azamgarh, Samajwadi president Akhilesh Yadav was leading over his nearest rival Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua of BJP. In Ghazipur, Union Minister Manoj Sinha was trailing behind BSP candidate Afzal Ansari while Union Minister Maneka Gandhi was behind BSP candidate Sonu Singh in Sultanpur. The election period from mid-April 2019 till now has turned fruitful for petrol and diesel prices. A Morgan Stanley research note highlights that retail fuel prices remained range-bound during elections, despite 5% rise in oil prices since April. However, the note also reveals that unlike in the past they changed and even rose at times. Investors had viewed elections as a key overhang and margin/demand rise from recent trough should support multiples. And, searching the right stock in OMCs would be key benefactor for them. According to the note, Retail fuel margins have declined in the past 15 days as adjustments in fuel prices have been slower than the rise in oil prices and weaker INS (vs USD).
