Article 15 box office collection day 3: Given its niche subject and tough competition at the box office from Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh, a good start was always going to be a big challenge for Article 15. But as it turns out, the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer has done exceedingly well, giving the actor his second biggest weekend of all time, only to be behind last year's Badhai Ho. Article 15 released to a Rs 5.02 crore Friday and picked up over the weekend due to good reviews and positive word of mouth. It collected Rs 7.77 crore on Sunday, taking the overall collection to Rs 20.04 crore.
The film also managed to survive the India vs England match from the ICC ODI World Cup. Article 15 seems to be doing well in the metro cities which is driving the film's growth. "#Article15 has a healthy weekend... Ample growth on Day 2 and 3... Metros strong, driving its biz... #KabirSingh wave + #INDvENG #CWC19 cricket match [on Sun] restrict overall growth... Weekdays crucial... Fri 5.02 cr, Sat 7.25 cr, Sun 7.77 cr. Total: ₹ 20.04 cr. India biz," movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday.
In another tweet, Adarsh confirmed that Article 15 has had a bigger opening weekend than some of Ayushmann's recent releases including Andha Dhun (Rs 15 crore), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (Rs 14.46 crore) and Bareilly Ki Barfi (Rs 11.52 crore).
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh has continued its dominance at the box office and is inching towards the Rs 200 crore mark. The film raked in Rs 17.84 crore on Sunday, taking its overall collection to past Rs 180-crore mark. "#KabirSingh continues its dominance... Shows solid gains on [second] Sat and Sun [despite #INDvENG #CWC19 cricket match]... Inches closer to ₹ 200 cr... Chasing a big total... [Week 2] Fri 12.21 cr, Sat 17.10 cr, Sun 17.84 cr. Total: ₹ 181.57 cr. India biz," Adarsh tweeted.
Kabir Singh had earned Rs 134.42 crore in its first week and added another Rs 47.15 crore in the second weekend. It had taken the film just 5 days to breach the Rs 100 crore mark.
