The Central Government has approved the establishment of 'Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0' with a total corpus of Rs 10,000 crore for mobilising venture capital for the country’s startup ecosystem, according to a notification issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The scheme, to be known as 'Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 (Startup India FoF 2.0)', will come into force from the date of the notification, with commitments to Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) spread over the 16th and 17th Finance Commission cycles.

Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 will enable access to venture capital for startups across stages and sectors, similar to the earlier Fund of Funds for Startups. It will also provide thrust to innovation-driven manufacturing, long gestation technologies, and support smaller venture capital funds focusing on early growth-stage startups.

The structure of the scheme will continue to be along the lines of the Fund of Funds for Startups launched in 2016 under the Startup India Action Plan. The scheme will contribute to the corpus of SEBI-registered AIFs for investment in equity and equity-linked instruments of entities recognised as startups by the Central Government.

After raising funds from other investors to meet their target corpus, AIFs will evaluate startups for investments, which will take place in tranches over a period. These AIFs will draw funds from contributors, including Startup India FoF 2.0, and will mentor and nurture their investee startups before exit or sale of investments.

Distributions, including capital redeemed and returns earned, after utilisation of up to 5 per cent of returns for capacity building of the startup ecosystem, will be deposited back into the Consolidated Fund of India.

The scheme has an expanded scope with a segmented approach to target key areas. This includes support for AIFs focused on deep-tech startups, early-stage ventures through smaller funds, technology-driven manufacturing startups under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and sector-agnostic investments.

Operational flexibilities will be incorporated to address the requirements of these segments. These include support for larger fund sizes in capital-intensive sectors, longer duration funds for startups with extended R&amp;D cycles, higher contribution from the scheme in segments where private capital is limited, and moderation of investment multipliers to encourage wider participation.

The scheme also positions Startup India FoF 2.0 as an umbrella framework for co-investment or contribution of additional corpus by ministries, departments and institutional investors. It also provides for a strengthened monitoring and evaluation system through an Empowered Committee with inter-ministerial representation.

For implementation, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), which was the implementing agency for the earlier scheme, will continue in the same role. Additional domestic implementing agencies will also be selected.

These agencies will invite proposals from AIFs and carry out due diligence. A Venture Capital Investment Committee (VCIC), constituted by DPIIT and comprising industry representatives and experts, will consider and recommend proposals for funding under the scheme.

An Empowered Committee chaired by the Secretary, DPIIT, will oversee the implementation and performance of the scheme. The committee will include representatives from concerned ministries and departments, the National Startup Advisory Council, and members of the startup ecosystem.

Public sector life insurance company LIC's board on Monday gave the nod to a proposed bonus issuance in the ratio of 1:1. A 1:1 bonus -- read as 'one for one'&nbsp;in market parlance -- means that eligible shareholders will receive one equity share for each equity share held in the company. This marks the state-run life insurance behemoth's first bonus issuance since the listing of its shares in 2022.&nbsp;

In a regulatory filing made post-market hours on Monday, the company said that eligible investors will receive one fully-paid up equity share of the face value of Rs 10 for every one fully paid-up equity share on the record date.&nbsp;

However, it is not the first time the life insurance PSU has decided to reward its shareholders.&nbsp;

It has announced several dividend in the four-year period.&nbsp;

Earlier on Monday, LIC shares ended 1.3 per cent higher at Rs&nbsp;809 apiece on NSE, outperforming a Mumbai-market where benchmarks fell nearly one per cent at the end of a volatile day.

Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Announcement: There is good news for rail travellers as a Vande Bharat sleeper train connecting Mumbai and Bengaluru is set to be introduced soon. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, April 13, announced that the NDA government has approved the proposal for the new service.

Sharing the update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister termed it “good news” for passengers and said the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and KSR Bengaluru.

It is expected that the train will improve connectivity between the two major urban centres — Mumbai and Bengaluru.

<h2>Vande Bharat Sees Strong Passenger Growth</h2>

On a separate note, Indian Railways recently announced that the Vande Bharat Express network has seen a significant increase in passenger numbers, with approximately 39.8 million passengers travelling in FY 2025-26 alone. This marked a robust year-on-year growth of nearly 34 per cent compared to 29.7 million passengers in FY 2024-25, said the ANI report.

<h2>Key Routes Driving Demand</h2>

Launched in February 2019 on the New Delhi-Varanasi route, the service has grown into a nationwide network symbolising speed, comfort and self-reliance under the Make in India initiative.

Backing US President Donald Trump's position on the Strait of Hormuz,&nbsp;Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday blamed Iran for violating negotiation terms. He highlighted “unprecedented” coordination between Israel and the US, stating that under Trump's leadership, the US is focused on eliminating what he described as Tehran’s enriched nuclear material and halting future enrichment. The Israeli PM also mentioned a conversation he had with US Vice President JD Vance post-peace talks.&nbsp;

Israeli forces are making “significant progress” in southern Lebanon, pushing threats away from the border, said Netanyahu. The inclusion of Lebanon in a two-week ceasefire announced last week has been&nbsp;one of the main points of diplomatic friction between Israel, the US and Iran. While Israel explicitly claims&nbsp;that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire, Iran insists that it is, and the US has given mixed signals on the matter, first including it, and then shifting its stance to call it a misunderstanding (there are conflicting messages between the White House and the mediators).&nbsp;

<h2>A deeper 'security zone' to prevent infiltration and reduce anti-tank missile risks</h2>

Claiming that Israeli military leaders are doing "incredible work", Netanyahu said that they are pushing the enemy away from the border. "We are not talking about five points; we are talking about a solid, deeper security zone that both prevents the danger of invasion and distances the anti-tank missile threat. They are also dealing with the terrorist villages that were adjacent to us, where every terrorist position, and there are many, is simply being flattened," he said.

Mentioning "a threat from high-trajectory rocket fire", he praised his country's military commanders for their "readiness and the understanding that we must restore security to the North and ensure that the residents of the North receive the same measure of security as all citizens of Israel".

<h2>Israel will not rest until it restores its citizens' security: Netanyahu</h2>

"We will not rest until we restore their security," he said, adding: "The fighting continues; it has not stopped. It is continuing all the time."

Stating that Vance briefed him about the peace talks over a conversation from&nbsp;his plane on the way back from Islamabad, Netanyahu said that&nbsp;the American side could not tolerate Iran's blatant violation of the agreement to enter into negotiations.

"The agreement was that firing would cease and the Iranians would immediately open the straits. They (Iran) did not do it," said the Israeli PM.

He also claimed that members of the Trump administration briefs his government daily on the progress of the negotiations.&nbsp;

The central issue on the agenda for the US is the removal of "all enriched material, and ensuring there is no more enrichment in the coming years", claimed Netanyahu.

"This could be for decades, no enrichment inside Iran. This is their focus, and of course, it is important to us as well," he added.&nbsp;

<h2>Iram violated ceasefire rules, hence US naval blockage: Israeli PM</h2>

Accusing Iran of violating the rules, Netanyahu supported Trump's decision to impose a naval blockade against Iran. "We, of course, support this firm stance, and we are in constant coordination with the US. The talk as if there is a disconnect between us is the complete opposite. Anyone who was around during this call, and during the daily conversations we hold with the President and his people, his staff, can testify to that," said Netanyahu.

Comparing Iran's action with Holocaust, the Israeli PM said: "Today, the tables have turned: We are the ones hunting our oppressors. They who came to destroy us are currently fighting for their survival. The power of the State of Israel, only 80 years after the Holocaust, is visible to the entire world. Even if the world has forgotten the Holocaust, we have not forgotten. We know that we must stand up to evil in time and with strength, and we are doing so, as no country other than the US is doing."

<h2>Israel enjoys its strongest-ever strategic alignment with the US</h2>

Israel is at the peak of its power, he said on the eve of Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day.&nbsp;

"If we had not acted, if we had not taken our fate into our own hands in the independent State of Israel, with the Israel Defense Forces and our security arms, the names Isfahan, Natanz, Fordow, and Bushehr would be remembered like Auschwitz, Majdanek, and Sobibor. That is exactly the whole difference," said Netanyahu.

"They come to destroy us and we rise up against them," he said.

"In every generation, they rise against us; in this generation, we rose against them, and this is a massive change that all citizens of Israel should welcome."

National weather forecaster India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said the 2026 southwest monsoon is likely to be below normal at 92 per cent of a long-period average (LPA). This marks the first instance of below-average precipitation during the season -- crucial for the country's agricultural output -- in three years. Monson rainfall in the range of 96-104 per cent of the long-period average is considered normal in the country, where the majority of farmers depend on seasonal precipitation for irrigation.&nbsp;

The IMD said that adequate rainfall is important for the country’s agricultural output. It supports the farm economy and rural demand. US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of failing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz despite assurances, claiming that Tehran violated international law and further damaged its credibility despite peace talks in Pakistan that stretched to more than 20 hours. In a series of posts on Truth Social, a platform owned by him, Trump categorically stated that the core dispute with Tehran remains unresolved, referring to Iran's nuclear ambitions.&nbsp;He said that the US Navy has been instructed to restrict vessels in the maritime region from paying “illegal tolls” to Iran. He also wrote that any Iranian force firing at American or any peaceful vessels in the strait "will be blown to hell".&nbsp;

He mentioned that the US will start destroying the mines allegedly laid by Iranians in the Strait of Hormuz.&nbsp;

Separately, Trump reportedly told a TV channel:&nbsp;"I don't care if they (Iranian negotiators) come back or not. If they don't come back, I'm fine." He war speaking on the failed talks with Iran.&nbsp;

<h2>Iran has no cards left to play: Trump</h2>

In an interview to American news channel Fox News, Trump expressed confidence that Iran will return and "give us everything", asserting that Tehran has not left the negotiating table.&nbsp;

He also said that the American team has been instructed clearly that "we want a full 100 per cent", "not 90 per cent or 95 per cent".

Iran now has no cards left to play, the US president told the channel.&nbsp;

<h2>US to start Hormuz blockade at 7:30 pm India time</h2>

The US Central Command announced on X that its forces will begin implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on April 13 at 10 a.m. ET (7:30 pm in India), in accordance with the President’s proclamation.

"The blockade will be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM forces will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports. Additional information will be provided to commercial mariners through a formal notice prior to the start of the blockade," noted the Central Command.&nbsp;

In his longer-than-usual Truth Social posts, Trump wrote: "I could go into great detail, and talk about much that has been gotten but, there is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!"

Earlier on Sunday, an American delegation led by Vice President JD Vance left Pakistan's capital, where talks with the Iranian side took place, after failing to strike a deal with the Middle Eastern country.&nbsp;

Trump did acknowledge that several talking points were resolved between both sides, but also pointed out that the primary objective that Iran shouldn't be allowed to acquire nuclear power was not decided.

"In many ways, the points that were agreed to are better than us continuing our Military Operations to conclusion, but all of those points don’t matter compared to allowing Nuclear Power to be in the hands of such volatile, difficult, unpredictable people," he wrote, describing Iran's nuclear ambition as the "single most important issue".&nbsp;

<h2>Iran will never have a nuclear weapon: Trump</h2>

He reiterated his firm position on the matter, saying: "IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!"

Accusing Iran of "knowingly" failing to open the Strait of Hormuz as promised, Trump wrote that this has "caused anxiety, dislocation and pain" to many people and countries throughout. "They say they put mines in the water, even though all of their Navy, and most of their 'mine droppers', have been completely blown up," he claimed.

"As they promised, they better begin the process of getting this INTERNATIONAL WATERWAY OPEN AND FAST!" he wrote.

The POTUS lauded the Pakistani leadership for their efforts. "I have been fully debriefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, on the meeting that took place in Islamabad through the kind and very competent leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan," posted Trump.

<h2>Any Iranian who fires at us… will be blown to hell: Trump</h2>

Trump announced that the US Navy will start the process of "blockading any and all ships" trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz, effective immediately.&nbsp;

"THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas," he said.

"We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran knows, better than anyone, how to END this situation which has already devastated their Country. Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti Aircraft and Radar are useless, Khomeini, and most of their “Leaders,” are dead, all because of their Nuclear ambition," he added.

"The blockade will begin shortly," he wrote, asserting that Iran will "not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION".

"They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully “LOCKED AND LOADED,” and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!" wrote the POTUS.&nbsp;
