Both countries share more than 1,600 kilometre long border and one of India's concerns has been the presence of insurgent groups along the border. The two countries are also likely to discuss ways to boost trade ties.

President Kyaw's visit assumes special significance in view of the Government`s impetus on Act East policy and India`s increasing strategic as well as trade engagement with countries on the eastern borders.

Kyaw is also scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and hold discussions on mutual interest.

This is the first visit by the Myanmar President after assumption of office by the new government in March this year.
