This spans its newly launched Idea VoLTE service in a total 15 cities. The company says, “Idea VoLTE is the revolutionary service that enables you to experience HD quality voice with faster call setup time and reduced background noise, providing you with an unmatched sound clarity on Voice Calls.”
It has been revealed that Idea VoLTE service has been launched in 9 circles including Mumbai, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, UP East, UP West, Bihar & Jharkhand and Rajasthan. With this, Idea’s VoLTE is now available in 15 circles which is 85% of India’s subscriber base.
Guess what! This Idea VoLTE will help you avail 30GB data for free. At first, a user will get 10GB data for making the first VoLTE call, followed by another 10GB data for giving feedback after four weeks services and lastly one more 10GB data for providing feedback after eight weeks.
This VoLTE service of Idea is available on smartphones like newly launched Vivo V7 Plus, Honor 5C, Honor 6X, Honor 7X, Honor View 10, Honor 9 lite, Honor 9i handsets. Not only them, other Android handsets like Xiaomi Redmi 4, Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro/Galaxy A5/Galaxy A7, OnePlus 5/5T/6 and Nokia 3/5, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus devices also have the service.
Idea VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is an advanced service through which customers can experience HD quality crystal clear voice with faster call setup time and reduced background noise. While using VoLTE services, users can continue to have un-interrupted high-speed 4G internet experience.
Idea VoLTE users will experience HD voice quality. Idea customers with VoLTE services can experience superior call quality and faster call setup time compared to normal voice calls. Voice conversations sound more natural with less background noise compared to standard voice calls. However to experience true HD voice quality, both the calling and the receiving party should have handsets that support VoLTE.
Idea VoLTE calls will be charged as per the customer's existing voice plan / pack and would not consume any data. Even after data pack is over, VoLTE calls will continue as usual. When there is no 4G coverage, then normal voice calls (over 2G/3G Network) will happen instead of VoLTE.
Here’s how you can identify Idea VoLTE call service on your phone.
Android users can see HD/VoLTE icon on the top bar of the screen, which indicates that their phone is ready for VoLTE calls. For iOS users there is no visual representation. However, they can verify VoLTE-readiness through the settings under mobile data.
For iOS: Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Enable 4G -> Turn on Voice & Data
For Android: Settings -> Settings -> Mobile Network -> Turn on VoLTE call *These settings may differ from one handset manufacturer to another.
For enjoying Idea VoLTE services, follow the steps given below:
Step 1 Verify compatibility of your smartphone model with Idea VoLTE services (List of devices given in the above section)
Step 2 Ensure that your handset has been upgraded with the latest software provided by your handset manufacturer
Step 3 Ensure that you are using a 4G compatible SIM
Step 4 Verify that the VoLTE voice calling feature has been enabled on your smartphone –
- For iOS: Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Enable 4G -> Turn on Voice & Data
- For Android: Settings -> Settings -> Mobile Network -> Turn on VoLTE call
Step 5 For users with Dual SIM handsets, Idea SIM should be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and network mode as “4G” or “LTE”. Follow these steps to enable the same – Settings -> Sim networks -> Preferred network type -> “4G” or “LTE”

It needs to be noted that Idea’s this VoLTE offers are somewhat similar to Bharti Airtel, as the latter’s Airtel VoLTE Beta program also gives 30GB of free data to the customers until eight weeks.
