Deva Snana Purnima 2023: Deva Snana Purnima is the birth anniversary of the Hindu deity Lord Jagannath. Deva Snana Purnima is celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Jyeshtha and is an annual bathing festival on the full moon day. Snana Purnima is the time when people are allowed to have the darshan of Lord Jagannath and his divine siblings at Snana Mandap at Shree Jagannath Temple. Rath yatra is also carried out on this day.

A procession is held that is witnessed by thousands of devotees, and the idols are brought to the ‘Snana Bedi’ or the bathing altar.
The idols of the deities are then bathed but prior to the bathing ceremony, a puja and rituals are performed by the priests.
After the completion of the bathing ceremony, the deities are then dressed up. A special bhog is prepared as an offering to the Lord on the day of Deva Snana Purnima.
Later at night, the three main deities retire to the ‘Anasars’ House, located in the temple complex. During the ‘Anasara’ period, the devotees cannot see their Gods.
The idols of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra then appear for public viewing only 15 days later, on the day before the famous Rath Yatra.

Lord Jagannath is considered as an avatar or reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Jagannath Temple is one of the four pilgrimage destinations of the Hindu Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.
