The Centre is working on developing a policy framework for formulating strategy, roadmap and action plan for decarbonisation of the steel sector, a top official said on Tuesday.

As per an esrlier PIB release, the policy mandates to provide preference to Domestically Manufactured Iron &amp; Steel Products (DM1&amp;SP), in Government Procurement. The policy is applicable on all government tenders where price bid is yet to be opened.

State-owned NMDC&nbsp;posted a 37.5 per cent jump in iron ore production at 3.41 million tonnes (MT) in August 2023.&nbsp;The miner had produced 2.48 MT of iron ore in the same month last year.

The new entity will be listed as NDMC Steel after getting all required approvals from the government.

"Recently a team from NMDC visited the plant and held initial discussions with Masan Resources.
