Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty fall by over 4% in opening trade

After a dramatic recovery of 1325 points on Friday, the Sensex once again started on a downward trajectory on Monday falling by over 4.4% in the opening trade. The broader market Nifty also fell by 4.5% when the markets opened on Monday. 

The sensex was trading at 32599.65 arount 9:20 am while the Nifty was trading at 9505.10 levels. 

On Friday, the Sensex ended the day at 34,103 going up by 1,325 points higher from the previous close while the Nifty closed at 10,023 gaining by 433 points.

Earlier on Friday, within minutes of the opening bell, Indian bourses halted trading for 45 minutes after both the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty hit their 10% lower circuit limits. Amid weak sentiments on the Dalal Street, the market regulator took the step. The markets improved marginally after market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued a statement saying that it has a robust risk management framework in place which automatically gets triggered in response to movements in the indices. The market regulator had assured the investors that it is further prepared to take suitable actions as may be required.
