There is no change in the vaccination schedule of Covishield. Subsequently, after the first Covishield dose is administered, the second dose will be given after the gap of 12 weeks, he said.
"Covishield schedule in India is of 2 doses, no change has been made," added Dr. Paul.
The Covaxin is developed by Bharat Biotech, whereas the Covishield is developed by Serum Institute. Similarly, India has scheduled 2 doses of Covaxin. The second dose of Covaxin should be after the 4th to 6th week of the first dose.
"There is no confusion. We all have to take 2 doses of Covishield and Covaxin doses in India," he said.
In India, the vaccination drive was started with Covaxin and Covishield on January 16, 2021. The second phase of COVID-19 vaccination to inoculate people above 60 years of age and those above 45 years with comorbities was started on March 1, 2021.
In the third phase that began on April 1, 2021, all above 45 years were included. In the next phase, which started on May 1, 2021, all adults above 18 years of age were included. Recently, Russia's Sputnik V has also been approved by the government for use in India.
