FIFA World Cup 2026 Schedule: Mexico to kick off tournament at Estadio Azteca, New York to host final — Check Stadiums, Full Fixtures

FIFA World Cup 2026 Schedule: The international football governing body, FIFA, has officially announced on Monday, February 5 (IST), the schedule for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The biggest football tournament and arguably the biggest sporting event in the world is set to commence on June 11, 2026, at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico. This was the same stadium that had witnessed the infamous 'Hand of God' by iconic Argentine footballer Diego Maradona in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup against England.  

The tournament will be played across 16 different venues in these three countries — 11 venues in the USA, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. 

The USA leg of the tournament will kick off at the Los Angeles Stadium on June 12, 2026, and the MetLife Stadium in New York, New Jersey, will host the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on July 19.

BMO Field in Toronto will host the first match in Canada on June 12, 2026.

The tournament that started with just 13 teams in 1930 — the FIFA World Cup in 2026 will be the biggest edition in the history of the tournament, with the number of teams participating increasing to 48 from 32, featuring 104 games in total.

The teams will be divided into 12 groups, with four teams in each group. The top two teams will progress automatically, along with the eight best third-placed teams, to the knockout stage, which is the round of 32.

FIFA has yet to announce the draws for the tournament as the qualifiers for 2026 for all the federations are underway.
