TRAI takes stock of call drops, network issues post 5G rollout; proposes one QoS regulation for voice and data services

To simplify regulatory framework for QoS, TRAI has proposed to have a single regulation dealing with Quality of Service standards for all voice and data services for both wireline and wireless services. In this regard, it has proposed three regulations to be merged into a single regulation.

Trai seeks public views on selective banning of internet-based calls and messaging apps

The consultation paper on "Regulatory Mechanism for Over-The-Top (OTT) Communication Services, and Selective Banning of OTT Services" follows a suggestion of a parliamentary panel to the Department of Telecom (DoT) to "explore option of banning selective services such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram etc. Instead of banning the internet as a whole" in an emergency situation.
