The electricity generated from the solar panels will be utilised for non-traction purposes which includes lighting on stations, lifts, escalators and water pumps. A MMRDA official said, “Our consumption of electricity will increase after the entire corridor between Chembur and Mahalaxmi will be made operational. The installations of solar panels will bring down the consumption of electricity by around 20 per cent.”

Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, “We are planning theme-based Metro stations wherein exteriors and interiors of the Metro station will be given a look or theme considering the factors that give identity to a particular locality.”
