HDFC Bank in one of its report said, “With the surge in deposits growth from 9.8% in 1H-FY17 to around 13% in 2H-FY17, commercial banks in India are at the moment flush with liquidity. After a spurt in deposits post-demonetisation, there is now a trend-reversal underway.”

In a move to facilitate liquidity management operations, the RBI revised the ceiling for the issue of securities under the MSS to Rs 6 lakh crore from the earlier Rs 30,000 crore. The move would help it rein in excess liquidity from the system after demonetisation which had seen banks getting high cash deposits.
