WhatsApp trick: Video calling has been around for a long time now. Yet, the world had never seen a huge surge in its usage, till the COVID19 lockdown happened. People have turned to several video calling platforms to get in touch with their friends, families, relatives and colleagues, among other.
The increased usage has forced some platforms to make changes to their apps and introduce new features to improve user experience. WhatsApp, which is one of the most used messaging platforms in the world right now, has also made some changes to its video calling feature. The platform now allows up to eight people to connect with each other. Earlier, only up to four people could have joined a WhatsApp video call.
Here’s how you can video chat with up to eight people on WhatsApp:
- The feature is available on the beta version of WhatsApp and is yet to be rolled out for everyone. It is available on version 2.20.133 on Android and version 2.20.50.25 on iOS.
- All the participants of the video calls must be running the above mentioned versions of WhatsApp.

- The video call can be initiated in two ways.
- Either you can manually add participants from the call option.
- Or, you can go to a group and start a video call. Before the call is made, WhatsApp will ask you to select from the group members to be a part of it. You can select fewer than or up to 8 participants.
WhatsApp is yet to announce when the feature will be made available for all the users However, you can expect the roll out soon.
