The wait is over! Gamers can rejoice as Sony has finally revealed full specifications of its new PlayStation after months of wait and speculation. The company had already announced that the gaming console will be launched this holiday season. The PS5 will be powered by a custom eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) and a custom GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture hardware that promises 10.28 teraflops and 36 compute units clocked at 2.23GHz (variable frequency).
Sony has confirmed that PS5 will come with 16GB of RAM and 825GB of storage. Sony has switched to SSD storage on the new console which claims to load games faster than before.
The console will also have support for USB hard drives. This is largely designed for backward-compatible PS4 games. It will have already announced 4K Blu-ray drive and will still support discs.
The most exciting feature of the console could be the 3D audio support because of its new Tempest Engine.
When will PlayStation 5 launch?
In a blog post, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said: "Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring.
"Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020."
The console with have a new controller with haptic feedback that replaces the "rumble" technology typically found in joypads. It will basically provide better touch to your hands. "Crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field," said PlayStation boss Jim Ryan.
