Indian equities in Wednesday’s session ahead of the crucial US Fed minutes ended on a positive note. Nifty at the close ended higher by 68.75 points or 0.31 per cent at 22,597.8, while Sensex ended with gains of 0.36 per cent or 267.75 points at 74,221.06.

Investors are optimistic about stable Q4 earnings and easing election jitters that had previously increased volatility.  Nevertheless, markets may underperform in the short term as they wait for the election outcome, with FIIs staying on the sidelines, said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.

Sectorally, FMCG space led the gains as the buying interest has increased due to the potential for an early onset of monsoon.
