President Election: Celebrations in NDA camp as Droupadi Murmu leads | PICS
The counting for the second round of votes of the MLAs has begun.
President Election: Droupadi Murmu's election to the country's top office is now certain. Murmu, the NDA's Presidential candidate, has taken comfortable lead over her nearest rival and joint opposition's nominee Yashwant Sinha. As per the latest trend available, Murmu has bagged 540 of the 748 votes of the MPs while Sinha has pocketed 208 votes after the first round of counting, Returning Officer PC Mody said. Votes of 15 MPs were declared invalid, the Returning Officer added. The counting for the second round of votes of the MLAs is currently underway. Meanwhile, celebrations have begun in the NDA camp with Murmu leading in the race to Raisina Hills.

With each MP having a vote value of 700 in this presidential election, Murmu received a total of 5,23,600 votes which is 72.19 per cent of the total valid MP votes.Pic: PTI
