The intensity of rains has now reduced in Mumbai. Although it is still cloudy, there are no heavy showers like the ones witnessed from July 7 till yesterday. 3-digit rainfall was recorded in various parts of Mumbai till then, which resulted in waterlogging, floods in areas like Vasai Road, Nalasopara and Virar station. Not only this, many potholes impacted the roads which slowed down Mumbai traffic to an extreme level. Usually when there are heavy rains the worst hit are airlines and railways, whose operations slow down and many passengers face delays. However, weather forecaster has now predicted that rains will ease over the city, which is considered as India’s financial hub. However, despite rains receding today, Mumbai airport has recorded delays of 368 flights.

Jet Airways, Indigo and Vistara have been issuing notices to passengers where they have provided relief by giving waivers on cancellation of flights and accommodation to the ones who have missed their flight.

The number of airline passengers facing trouble is massive considering the amount of delayed being reported at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

If you visit the official website of Mumbai airport, you will see a total 184 flights being delayed during departure and also another 184 during arrivals. This number can go up further, so far, the information in regards to flight delay was till 1358 hours today.

Going ahead, if we take into consideration both departure and arrivals, then Mumbai airport has announced a delay of some nearly 368 flights today.

Monsoon rains have been lashing the state of Maharashtra for the last many days. However, the intensity of rains has remained extremely heavy over Konkan division. So much so that Mumbai has recorded three-digit rains for four days in a row.

According to Skymet Weather, within the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mumbai’s Santa Cruz Observatory recorded three-digit rains to the tune of 114 mm, Dahanu 69 mm, Gondia 65 mm, Yeotmal 60 mm, Vengurla 53 mm, Amravati 45 mm, Colaba Observatory 41 mm, Washim 37 mm, Buldana 30 mm, Alibag 24 mm, Ratnagiri 22 mm, Jalgaon 11 mm, Kolhapur 8 mm, and Pune recorded 4 mm of light rains.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains were on account of the persistence of the cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat. As of now, we expect the rain intensity to decrease over the Konkan region. However, moderate spells with one or two heavy spells are likely to continue for the next two days.

However, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra regions, including cities like Pune, Nashik, Parbhani, Aurangabad, and Hingoli would receive light rains only. Skymet Weather further anticipates that such kind of weather conditions would continue over the state for the next two to three days.

Thereafter, the intensity of rains would once again increase over North Konkan around July 14. Mumbai would also record rainfall with a reduced intensity, but moderate showers are still expected.
