After fitting most of the Indian Railways train coaches with bio-toilets to get rid of the 'world's largest open toilet' tag, the national transporter has now turned its focus on stinking toilets at railway stations. Most of us will agree that we rarely get a clean toilet at railway stations. The toilets at the station and railway premises are often poorly maintained and sometimes it's even difficult to use.

However, Indian Railways now wants to change your experience. From October 2, which is Gandhi Jayanti, if you come across stinking and poorly maintained toilets at railway stations, you can directly bring it to the notice of railways authorities. All you will have to do is to report it on either railways social media handles like Twitter or Facebook, or you can send a WhatsApp message on given numbers.

For example, the WhatsApp number for the Western Railway is 9004499773, while it is 9987645307 for Central Railway.

These numbers are managed by social media cell of the railways and were started on July 31. A DNA report says that senior officials promised immediate action on the feedback received from commuters. The Central and Western Railways have taken up the mammoth task of cleaning up 187 toilets across city’s suburban stations.

SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), Central Railway, said that they are not only looking at upgrading the toilet facilities but will also be constructing toilets for physically challenged commuters at all stations by September 30.

Railways official will conduct a regular inspection to check the condition of toilets and facilities including faucets, taps, water connections, exhaust fans and lights.
