IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Charges: If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate.
IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Charges: Indian Railways is one of the world's largest public transporters. It runs over 12,600 trains every day carrying over 23 million passengers. Besides normal tickets, the railways offers Tatkal Tickets for those who have to undertake a journey due to an emergency too. The fare of the Tatkal Tickets are always higher than those of normal tickets. The cancellation charges are also different for waitlisted and confirmed tickets in both the cases. Below are the latest charges imposed by Indian Railways on the cancellation of tickets booked through either counter or IRCTC:
* Cancellation of e-Tickets before preparation of the train chart:
If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancellation charges shall be deducted @ Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class, Rs 200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class, Rs 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy, Rs 120 for Sleeper Class and Rs 60 for Second Class, per passenger.
If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned above. Less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train up to chart preparation which is earlier, 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum cancellation charges.
* Cancellation of e-Tickets after the preparation of Reservation charts
E-ticket cannot be cancelled after chart preparation. Users are requested to use the online TDR filing for such cases and track Status of the refund case through tracking service provided by IRCTC. TDR can be filed as per Railway rules:
i) No refund of fare shall be admissible on the tickets having confirmed reservation in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
ii) No refund of fare shall be admissible on RAC e-tickets is case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
iii) In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger, some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list, full refund of fare, less clerkage, shall be admissible for confirmed passengers also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
* Cancellation of Confirmed Tatkal Tickets:
The railways don't permit any refund on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. So, if you have a confirmed Tatkal Ticket, you won't be getting even a single penny back in case of cancellation.
* Cancellation of Waitlisted Tatkal Tickets:
If you have a waitlisted Tatkal ticket, you can get it cancelled before the preparation of the chart. You will get the refund after deduction of the clerkage charges. If your tatkal e-ticket remained waitlisted even after the preparation of the chart, it will be automatically cancelled by the system and refunds will be processed.
However, if you have booked a tatkal ticket for more than one passenger and it gets partially confirmed - let's say out of two passengers, one is waiting and one gets confirmed after the preparation of the chart, you will be required to cancel or file TDR online after charting, but before 30 minutes prior to train departure.
