Indian Railways at work! Relief for those passing through Bengaluru

Indian Railways has been making big moves and that too at unheard of speeds. The latest work done ranks as a big achievement. After the Railway ministry board asked to eliminate all unmanned level crossings by the end of 2018, the Bengaluru division achieved it much ahead of the set deadline. Railways has successfully eliminated all the unnamed level crossings (UMLC) in Bengaluru six months prior to the December deadline!

The South Western Railway (SWR) made an announcement that it has eliminated all the unmanned level crossing (UMLC) gates all over Bengaluru and that will help to enhance the safety of Indian Railways trains passing through as well as that of the common road users. In Bengaluru division, 48 unmanned level crossings (UMLC) were closed and 23 of them were manned.

“All the 71 unnamed level crossings in the busy urban areas of Bengaluru have been eliminated. Of them, 48 with gates have been closed and 23 gates are manned round the clock,” the Indian Railways said in a statement.

This will make traffic on roads smoother and safer and also will save manpower and maintenance cost.

42 locations in Bengaluru has road under bridges or subways that are of the limited height and at two locations road over bridges are built. Some gates which were left have been shut down. It is diverted by the adjoining roads to adjacent level crossings.

“With no unmanned level crossings over the railway lines or tracks, vehicular traffic on roads will be safe and smooth, saving manpower and maintenance cost,” said the statement in the press release.

In total, nine unnamed level crossing gates in the city were present a year ago on the rail lines. Gatemen used to alert people about the approaching train, who used roads. Gatemen were provided round the clock for the alert.
