Exemption of Customs Duty on COVID-19 Vaccine: In an important development, the exemption of customs duty which is given on the import of COVID-19 vaccine till September 30, 2021 has been extended till December 31, 2021.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has tweeted about this important development from its official Twitter handle. The tweet said, "Exemption from Customs Duty given earlier on Import of COVID-19 vaccine (upto September 30, 2021) has now been extended till December 31, 2021."

<script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>As per the notification released from the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, "the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest to do so, hereby exempts the goods of the description specified in column 3 of the Table below (COVID-19 vaccine)."
The notification has further stated that this order will come into force from today, October 1, 2021 and will remain in effect will December 31, 2021.
In another COVID-19 related development, earlier,  insurance regulator IRDAI ordered renewal and purchase of corona special policy for the next six months, that is, till March 31, 2022. The IRDAI had ordered the launch of special Corona Kavach Policy last year to provide relief to the common man, but the renewal of the policy was only till September 30, 2021. Now, the IRDAI had ordered renewal for another six months due to the anticipation of COVID-19 3rd wave.
Though the COVID-19 cases have reduced in the country, on Thursday, as per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the country has recorded 23,529 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours. In another important landmark, 88.34 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
