Finding a perfect partner for life is one of the toughest decision of life. Bollywood has a rich collection of stories of people torn between choices and making a last-minute dash towards the train (a la Dilwale Dulhaniya…). Dr. David Cheriton, a Stanford professor, who wrote the first cheque for Google believes that algorithms have become smart and AI-powered matrimony recommendations can ensure up to 90% compatibility. This was sufficient motivation for Ishdeep Sawhney to create an AI-powered app and call it Banihal.com.

“We have built technology that can make the right introductions for Indian millennials to choose their life partner. Finally, the Indian experience of finding a life partner can be as easy as Google search,” Sawhney, an ex-Apple Inc executive, believes. 

Banihal is a Cupertino-based company focused on Indian millenials. It recently collaborated with Sonam Kapoor-starrer movie Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga which released on 1st February 2019.

Renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Producer of ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ said, "Banihal was the longest tunnel that I’d travelled through as a child growing up in the Kashmir valley. When I met the team of banihal.com, I was very happy to know that their concept was linked to the very same tunnel, of how sometimes after going through a dark tunnel, you find the right (and bright) match on the other side."

The mobile data revolution has intensified the actions in this market. From 42 crore (420 million) in March last year, the number of internet users have climbed to 56 crore (560 million) as of September 2018. In the last two years, 22 crore (220 million) new internet connection were added and the stage is set for artificial intelligence to be deployed through these devices. 

Notably, going forward, artificial intelligence is set to provide answers to important decisions in life, health, education and work. This is a rare moment in history where artificial intelligence technology is progressing faster than people’s expectations.
