Delhi electricity charges revised; rates per unit fall, fixed charges rise

Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain said the total electricity bills of every domestic consumer in Delhi across different categories have come down. "Everyone`s bills have come down. For some people by Rs 100, for some Rs 50....," he said, adding that the fixed rate had to be raised as the Central government increased the fixed rates of electricity produced by power plants from which the Delhi government purchases power, by 50 paise per unit.

Electricity charges in the Delhi have been revised. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) today announced that charges for domestic users, per unit, have been reduced, while fixed charges per month have been increased. So far, the state government provided subsidy to those who were consuming 400 units, but there was no subsidy on fixed charges in the national capital. Now, the DERC has increased fixed charges, but has reduced per unit charges on which subsidy was provided. So, the consumers using electricity up to 400 units, but not over that amount, will have to pay more. On the contrary, people consuming over 400 units will have to pay less.

Addressing media after the announcement, Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain said the total electricity bills of every domestic consumer in Delhi across different categories have come down. "Everyone`s bills have come down. For some people by Rs 100, for some Rs 50....," he said, adding that the fixed rate had to be raised as the Central government increased the fixed rates of electricity produced by power plants from which the Delhi government purchases power, by 50 paise per unit.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was also present, said, "For the fourth year electricity would not be costly in Delhi."
