Over 100 security threats impact several flights as airlines follow safety protocols
A number of flights continued to be impacted on Sunday amid a string of security threats, forcing the various airlines to ground the aircraft under standard safety protocols.
Security Threats Disrupting Flights News: A number of flights were impacted on Sunday after various airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara, received information about potential security threats. Over the past few days, safety threats have disrupted flight operations, with airlines receiving over a hundred calls and messages within a week. Upon receiving such threats, airlines are compelled to take precautionary measures, such as emergency landings and flight cancellations.
"Some of our flights operating on October 20, 2024 have received security alerts today. The Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the security and regulatory authorities," said an Akasa Air spokesperson.
"We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities and the Akasa Air teams on ground are prepared to assist passengers to ensure their safety and comfort," said the spokesperson.
Vistara received threats for six flights. "We confirm receiving security threats, on social media, for six Vistara flights operating on 20 October 2024," a Vistara spokesperson said.
The six flights were:
- Flight UK25 (Delhi to Frankfurt)
- Flight UK106 (Singapore to Mumbai)
- Flight UK146 (Bali to Delhi)
- Flight UK116 (Singapore to Delhi)
- Flight UK110 (Singapore to Pune)
- Flight UK107 (Mumbai to Singapore)
The spokesperson said that all relevant authorities were immediately notified, the spokesperson said.
Security procedures, as directed by them, are being carried out. As always, the safety and security of our customers, crew, and aircraft remain our top priority," added the Vistara spokesperson.
Similarly, IndiGo also shared details about threats received for several flights.
The airline said that its Flight 6E 87, operating from Kozhikode to Dammam, received a security-related alert, following which the aircraft was taken to the isolation bay and all customers were safely disembarked.
"At IndiGo, the safety and security of our customers and crew remains paramount in all facets of our operations. We worked closely with the relevant authorities, and standard operating procedures were followed. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused our customers and appreciate their understanding," IndiGo said in separate notifications for each flight.
Here are details about some of its other flights that were impacted by security-related alerts:
- Flight 6E 11 (Delhi to Istanbul)
- Flight 6E 112 (Goa to Ahmedabad)
- Flight 6E 133 (Pune to Jodhpur)
- Flight 6E 58 (Jeddah to Mumbai)
- Flight 6E 17 (Mumbai to Istanbul)
Customers of flights 6E 58, 6E 17 and 6E 11 were "safely disembarked" while the aircraft of flights 6E 133 and 6E 112 were "taken to the isolation bay and all customers were safely disembarked", the airline said.
