This feature has already been rolled out to 50 per cent of the customers and will be rolled out to the rest of the customers within the next three to four weeks.
This initiative by Zomato is a small step towards cutting down the carbon and environmental footprint of our food delivery business. According to the blog post by Zomato, this decision will help the restaurant partners save Rs 2-5, that is, approximately, 0.5-1 per cent of order value, on every order going forward.
In its blog post, Zomato wrote, "Our restaurant partners are excited about this change, we do expect some teething issues as we switch to a new default mode. We do not expect 100% compliance from the restaurant-end at the onset. Muscle memory needs to change, and we hope that it will happen over the next few months."
Zomato concluded the blog saying that this small step will help towards building a environmentally conscious India.
