Wipro acquires US-based Appirio for $500 million

Bengaluru-based IT major Wipro Ltd on Thursday said that it has acquired a global cloud services company Appirio for $500 million.

A 1250-employee company, Appirio is based in Indianapolis and was founded in 2006. The company has clients like Coca Cola, Facebook, Sony Playstation, eBay, among others.

Wipro said, "Once completed, Wipro's acquisition will of Appirio will create one of the world's largest cloud transformation practices, a game changer in today's as-a-service and digital economy."

The company said that it expects to close the acquisition by December 31, 2016.

William Blair & Company acted as financial advisor to Appirio during the transaction.
