The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) recently hosted the 'Green Plate EV Rally' at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. It marked a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly transportation and underscored SIAM's unwavering commitment to driving the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across the nation.
Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, who was also the chief guest, flagged off the "Green Plate EV Rally" that featured a fleet of over 100 electric vehicles, including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, cars, and buses.
The aim of the rally was to raise awareness and enhance customer confidence in EVs, while showcasing the capabilities of the Indian automotive industry, which has developed and launched multiple EVs over the past few years.
During the event, SIAM also honored Priyanka Pilaniya, gold medal winning vice-captain of the Indian women's kabaddi team, for her performance at the 19th Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
In his address, the Union Minister emphasised the government's commitment to supporting EV growth in the country. He noted that 9.4 lakh EVs are now on Indian roads and highlighted the positive outcomes of the PLI scheme in battery development and domestic manufacturing, reducing dependence on other nations. Mentioning India's pursuit of becoming a major battery manufacturing hub and the discovery of lithium deposits in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Pandey urged collaboration to achieve sustainability objectives and promote green mobility.
