Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies — IPFT and NDPP — were likely to retain power in Tripura and Nagaland, as per the latest trends post the initial rounds of counting in these two Northeast states. As per the exit poll predictions, Meghalaya witnessed a fractured mandate, with the Conrad Sangma's National People's Party emerging as the single largest party in the state assembly elections. Amit Shah also thanked the people of Meghalaya for their support and blessings to the BJP and said the party under Prime Minister Modi will leave no stone unturned in serving the people and creating a bright future for them.
Among the three northeastern states that went to assembly polls, Tripura's verdict was the most keenly watched due to the high stakes for three national parties - the BJP, Congress and the Left - and the results underscored the continuity of momentum in the saffron party's favour despite the occasional setbacks it has suffered in state polls.
A wide gap existed between the Centre and the northeast earlier but the Modi government has abolished the distance, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, adding that people in Tripura saw how the BJP has worked to fulfil its promises to them by solving old problems.
The BJP-IPFT alliance, according to the latest trends, is leading from 30 seats, one short of the magic figure in the 60-member Assembly. The opposition Left-Congress combine is leading in 17 seats.
