Five dead after wall collapses in Pune

At least five died and four injured after a wall in Maharashtra’s Pune Sinhgad College, Ambegaon collapsed at around 1:15 am today. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had reached the spot to rescue those trapped under the debris. The wall collapsed due to heavy downpour. Those injured have been admitted to the hospital.

15 Dead After Pune Apartment Complex Wall Crashes, Many Cars Stuck

Fifteen people have died in Pune after a portion of the wall of a residential building collapsed early this morning after heavy rain. Among the dead four children and a woman. Visuals showed several cars stuck in debris in Pune's Kondhwa area. The wall crashed down into tin sheds next to the apartment complex, taking down the parked cars as the ground caved in. The sheds were built for labourers working at a construction site nearby.

Researchers of Savitribai Phule Pune University say to invent natural process to degrade polythene

The researchers from the Botany department of Savitribai Phule Pune University said to invent a process of degradation. They have invented a natural process to degrade polythene & other plastic material. Currently, it is being done on an experimental basis. Dr Avinash B Ade, professor at the University says, "This is currently being done on an experimental basis. If polythene strip is inserted into food material medium of microbes or plastic material is inoculated into it, microbes' enzymes will release into that compound and help in degradation.”

This 79-year-old retired professor from Pune has spent her life without electricity

Dr Hema Sane, a 79 years old botanist based in Pune, does not believe in electronic appliances or even electricity. The reason behind not using electricity is her love for nature and environment. Dr Sane is a PHD holder in botany from Savitribai Phule University and she was even professor at Garware College for years. She lives in a small house in Budhwar Peth area of city. Her house is surrounded with different types of trees and bird nests. Chirping of birds is the natural alarm clock and fresh air surrounds her home.

Housing sales witness steep fall in 2017; demand in this region drops most

Housing sales dropped significantly during the 2015-2016 period and only an average 2.7 lakh units were sold annually, a drop of 17 per cent from the average sales of 2013-14. In 2017 calendar year, housing sales stood at 2,02,800 units. During the period under consideration, larger cities such as NCR and MMR, which were heavily driven by investor activity, recorded a massive drop of 68 per cent and 27 per cent , respectively, in average sales. In Delhi-NCR, sales fell to 37,600 in 2017 from average annual sales of 1,16,250 units during 2013-14
