Airtel has discontinued its ₹249 prepaid plan, following Jio’s recent move to modify its entry-level plans. The ₹249 plan was among the most popular budget-friendly packs, offering daily data, unlimited calling, and SMS benefits. With its removal from Airtel’s official website and app, customers now have limited options starting from ₹299 and above. Telecom experts believe this shift reflects Airtel’s strategy to increase ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) by phasing out low-cost plans and focusing more on mid-range and premium offerings. While this will help improve profitability for the telecom giant, budget-conscious users will be impacted the most. Both Airtel and Jio are aligning their strategies to reduce reliance on low-end plans, signaling a new era of higher tariffs in India’s telecom industry.
