The first train carrying water from Jolarpet in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district is expected to reach Chennai today. It will ease Tamil Nadu’s severe water crisis problem. Tamil Nadu government had announced to bring in water from Vellore by rail wagons as Chennai is facing an acute water crisis.

45 HIV positive children abandoned by their families have found a home in the "Shelter Trust" run by a man named Solomon Raj. Raj claims that good work gives him great satisfaction, especially when these children refer him as ‘Appa’. In the shelter home, the needy are provided with every facility ranging from education, medical care, training in crafts, arts, dance and working knowledge of computers etc. Many of them have been enrolled in Class XI and Class XII and seven of them even pursuing their graduation in various streams. While speaking to ANI, Solomon said, “I was inspired to help the HIV positive children as even after 8 years into my marriage I had no child and he wanted to adopt an HIV positive child who is in need. These children are the innocent victims of someone else's fault. I’ve become ‘appa’ for 45 children. It's big responsibility to take care of all the needs of these children.”

Ahead of World Environment Day, the ‘Tree Ambulance’ launched in Chennai by environmentalist Dr Abdul Ghani on June 4, aims at providing first-aid-like services for trees. Planting uprooted trees and offer services like seed ball distribution, plant distribution, aiding tree plantation, shifting and survey of trees and removal of dead trees. While speaking to ANI, founder Abdul Ghani said, “Our aim to implement it across the country by year 2020”.
IIT Madras students developing indigenous oil recovery method

Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras are developing indigenous processes for efficient recovery of oil from mature offshore wells. In collaboration with research laboratories in Australia, IIT Madras researchers are studying efficacy of an emerging enhanced oil recovery method called ‘Low-Salinity Enhanced Oil Recovery’ (LSEOR). While speaking on the same, Jitender Sangwai, Associate Professor (petroleum engineering program) in Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras, who is heading the research said, “Our research aims to develop indigenous methods for the recovery of crude oil from geological reservoirs, which is a complex process. There is still much that needs to be understood in the use of LSEOR methods. We do evaluate salt levels in water, the acidity of crude oil, mineralogy of rock and other factors”.
