Closing Bell! Stock market ends higher for 2nd day in row; Sensex up 450 pts, Nifty above 17800 – IT, private banks surge
The Indian market for the second straight session closed Tuesday’s session on a positive note, as Sensex gained over 450 points while Nifty ended above the 17800-mark.
The Indian market for the second straight session closed Tuesday’s session on a positive note, as Sensex gained over 450 points while Nifty ended above the 17800-mark. The surge was mainly led by information and technology stocks along with private lenders.
The BSE Sensex jumped 466 points or 0.8 per cent at 59,765.69; while Nifty50 grew over 132 points or 0.75 per cent to 17,823. Similarly, the mid-cap index hit a new high to breach 31000-mark for the first time, it gained over 131 points or 0.43 per cent at the market close today.

Private lender IndusInd Bank soared by 5 per cent, strengthened Nifty Bank, eventually aiding the benchmark index. The banking index grew by around 161 points or 0.43 per cent to 37741-mark at the market close on Tuesday.
Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 29 advanced, 20 declined one remained unchanged at the market close today. Public sector unit stock such as ONGC gained most by around 11 per cent, followed by IndusInd Bank grew by over 5 per cent, Coal India surged over 4 per cent and IOC up over 3 per cent.
On the contrary, Cipla and Hindalco declined by over 2 per cent, while Shree Cement, Sun Pharma and Tata Consumers slumped by over 1 per cent in otherwise positive market.
The majority of the indices ended in the green except for FMCG, Metal, and Pharma. Information and technology stocks along with private lenders gained most by over 1 and 0.64 per cent respectively. Similarly, media stocks pushed the mid-cap index to new highs, while realty stocks tried to drag.
