Here are five financial schemes designed to empower women and enhance their financial well-being through savings and investment opportunities:
Post Office Mahila Samman Savings Scheme
Launched in April 2023, the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme is a woman-centric, guaranteed return, small savings government scheme aimed at promoting women's financial growth. Also known as Mahila Samman Bachat Patra, the scheme is available at post offices, PSU banks, and select private banks until March 31, 2025, and offers an annual return of 7.5%, compounded quarterly.
Lakhpati Didi Yojana
This skill development training program, launched by the Government of India, aims to economically empower women, particularly in rural areas. Under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, women are trained in technical skills such as making LED bulbs, plumbing, and drone repair. Women whose family's annual income is at least Rs 1 lakh can benefit from this scheme.
Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana
Announced by the Delhi government in the 2024 budget, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana is a welfare program for women. Under this scheme, every woman above 18 years of age who is a resident of Delhi and holds a voter ID card for the National Capital will receive Rs 1,000 per month as monetary assistance.
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
Specifically designed for the welfare of the girl child, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana offers a long-term savings option with an attractive interest rate of 8.2% per annum and tax benefits. Parents or guardians can open an account for girls under the age of 10, ensuring financial security for their future education, marriage, or other life goals.
SBI Life Smart Women Advantage Plan
This insurance-cum-investment plan is specially designed for women, offering triple coverage—life cover, savings, and critical illness benefits. The SBI Life Smart Women Advantage Plan is a participating traditional endowment plan that also provides optional benefits for additional pregnancy complications, congenital anomalies (APC & CA), and birth-related abnormalities. It comes with two basic options: Gold Plan and Platinum Plan.
