Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating his 68th birthday today. Wishes for him have poured in from all quarters. President Ram Nath Kovind which the prime minister a long life. "Birthday greetings to our Prime Minister @narendramodi. Wish him a long life and many years of dedicated service to the people of the country," tweeted the President." Along with the President, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and BJP chief Amit Shah were among the first to greet the PM. "Warm Birthday wishes to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. India is making rapid strides under his visionary leadership and taking its rightful place in the comity of nations. May he be blessed with long and healthy life," tweeted Naidu. Shah hailed PM Modi's leadership. He said India today has a government under Modi, which is committed to the development of the poor, farmers and every section of society. The prime minister will spend his birthday with children of a primary school at Narur village in his constituency Varanasi and later at the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) campus.

PM Modi is now in the fifth year of his first term as the prime minister. In the last four years, his government has launched several schemes to help secure the lives of common citizens, including crores of people living in rural areas and the girl child. On the prime minister's birthday, we take a look at his government's seven such schemes:

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana was launched by Modi government in January 2015. It aims at securing the future of the girl child and provides triple tax benefits, i.e. no tax is levied on the amount invested, amount earned as interest and the amount withdrawn. Sukanya Samriddhi account can be opened by the legal guardian or parents in the name of a the girl child below 10 years of age. A person can invest as low as Rs 250/year up to maximum Rs 1.5 lakh per annum for a period of 15 years. The account matures after the completion of 21 years. By investing just Rs 1.5 lakh per year for 15 years, you can gift your daughter over Rs 70 lakh when she turns 21.

Atal Pension Yojana

APY offers pension benefits in multiples of Rs 1000 up to Rs 5000 per month. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government in 2015. APY accounts can be opened through the bank where the saving bank account is maintained. Bu investing just Rs 210/month, you can get Rs 60,000/year pension after 60 years.

Modicare (Ayushman Bharat)

 To be officially launched on September 25, the ambitious Ayushman Bharat Scheme aims to a Rs 5,00,000/year cover to around 50 crore citizens (or 10 crore families) of the country. It will be a completely cashless system with no premium needed to be paid by the beneficiaries.

Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

This scheme was launched by Modi government in 2014 with an aim to provide bank accounts to all Indians. Over 30 crore new banks accounts have been opened under the scheme. Jan Dhan account comes with Rs 10,000 overdraft facility and RuPay cards which provides Rs 2 lakh accident cover.

PM Awas Yojana (PMAY)

PMAY is part of Modi government's ambitious 'Housing for All' agenda. The scheme provides Launched in 2015, the scheme provides 3-6.5% subsidy for loans ranging between Rs 6-12 lakh. For those in EWS and LIG, there is 6.5% concession on  loans for tenure of 15 years. The scheme aims to address the housing shortfall in the country. For thise in low and mid-income category, the scheme reduces the cost of getting a home by Rs 1-2.3 lakh.

Sovereign Gold Scheme (SGB)

The SGB scheme was first announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Union budget 2015-16 as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government's efforts to reduce the demand for physical gold. Sold by RBI, the SGB can help you buy the virtual gold at up to 16% discount.
