Indian equity benchmarks in a volatile session ended sharply lower amid profit-booking. At the close, Nifty was dragged lower by 1.55 per cent or 345 points to 21,957.5, while Sensex lost 1.45 per cent or 1,062.22 points to settle at 72,404.17. Meanwhile, broader markets underperformed the headline indices.
