Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Domestic equity benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex finished higher for the fourth session in a row on Friday, February 16, mirroring gains across global markets. Share Market Today LIVE: SBI in talks with RBI to lower cash reserve ratio requirement on green deposits
SBI shares are up 1.2 per cent at Rs 770.8, having registered a record high of Rs 774.7 apiece earlier in the day.

On Friday, State Bank of India chairman Dinesh Khara said the lender is in talks with the Reserve Bank of India to reduce the cash reserve ratio requirement on green deposits.
The bank announced the scheme last month. The scheme, a first in the domestic banking space, is aimed at attracting long-term retail deposits to be used only to fund green transition projects or climate-friendly projects.

HDFC Bank shares turn flat after registering mild gains in the morning. The index heavyweight is barely in the red at this hour, trading at Rs 1,412.5 apiece on BSE.
The stock has gained some ground after its Q3 earnings led to a fall of about eight per cent in its stock.
Several foreign brokerages are upbeat on the counter.
Morgan Stanley has maintained its 'overweight' rating on HDFC Bank with a target of Rs 2,110 per share, which implies an upside of more than 49 per cent from the previous close.

The record high in the state-run OMC stock comes on the back of an upgrade by Jefferies.
The brokerage has upgraded BPCL to 'buy' from 'underperform' and raised its target to Rs 890 from Rs 415 per share.

Gujarat Gas shares fall sharply as several brokerages remain bearish on the stock after the gas distribution company's weak quarterly results. The Gujarat Gas stock drops as much as 6.2 per cent to Rs 545 apiece on BSE.
After market hours on Thursday, the gas distributor reported a 26 per cent quarter-on-quarter fall in standalone profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 220 crore for the October-December period. Its revenue from operations increased 2.2 per cent sequentially to Rs 3,929 crore for the fiscal third quarter.
Zee Business analysts had pegged the gas distribution firm’s December-quarter net profit at Rs 283 crore and revenue of Rs 4,030 crore.

Tata Motors shares gain by as much as Rs 28.3, or 3.1 per cent, at Rs 948.5 apiece, gaining for a third straight day and trading within inches of a record high of Rs 949.6 apiece touched on February 5.
The Tata group is a potential spin-off of its battery business, as the conglomerate expands its foray in the country’s renewable energy and EV sectors, according to a report by news agency Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter.

Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi sees support for the headline Nifty50 index emerging at 21,800-21,850 levels and a strong buy zone at 21,725-21,775 levels today. For the Nifty Bank, he expects support to come in at 45,825-46,000 levels and a strong buy zone at 45,525-45,725 levels.
He expects a higher zone for the Nifty50 coming in at 21,950-22,000 levels and a strong sell zone at 22,050-22,125 levels. For the banking index, he expects a higher zone at 46,475-46,575 levels and a strong sell zone at 46,750-46,875 levels.

The Defense Acquisition Council, under the Defence Ministry, is likely to approve defence purchases to the tune of Rs 19,000 crore from HAL and BEL in its meeting on Friday, according to an exclusive report by Zee Business.

Crude oil prices meander as investors ponder slowing demand forecast by an influential group and weak US retail sales data that has sparked optimism about US interest rate cuts.
Both contracts gained more than a per cent on Thrusday as a larger-than-expected drop in US retail sales prompted hopes the Fed will soon start cutting interest rates in coming months, which could be positive for oil demand.

The American currency is steady today, on track to register its fifth weekly gain in a row, as investors take stock of economic data and firm expectations of the Fed cutting rates in June, while the yen trades at the psychologically key 150 per dollar level.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major rivals, is up 0.1 per cent at 104.35, having eased 0.4 per cent the previous day.
The index is on course to eke out a 0.2 per cent gain for the week, its fifth in a row.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 gets off to a roaring start on Friday, opening the morning session at its highest since Japan's economic bubble burst in the late 1980s. The Nikkei share average is up 1.6 per cent at 38,769.6, surpassing the post-economic bubble era high of 38188.7.
It is up 14.0 per cent so far in 2024.
Meanwhile, MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan is up half a per cent.

The three Wall Street benchmarks, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, finish higher on Thursday as a more-than-expected fall in a US retail sales reading feeds hopes the central bank of the world's largest economy will soon start reducing key interest rates in coming months.
US retail sales dropped 0.8 per cent in January, weighed by declines at auto dealerships and gasoline service stations, according to a Commerce Department report.
