Share Market Update | Sensex, Nifty50 close lower for eighth day in a row

Both headline indices finish lower for the eighth back-to-back session, with the Sensex losing 326.2 points or 0.6 per cent to settle at 58,962.1. The Sensex gyrated in a range of almost 700 points around the flatline during the volatile session. 

The Nifty50 gives up 88.8 points or 0.5 per cent to end at 17,304.

MSCI index changes to come into force at end of day; Bank of Baroda, CG Power to be included, Biocon to be excluded in Global Standard gauge 

MSCI has reduced the weightage of Adani Enterprises, HCL Tech, JSPL, Shriram Finance and ACC. THe index provider has raised the weightage of Reliance, HDFC, ICICI Bank, Infosys and TCS.

The changes will take effect at the end of the trading day.

The Sensex finishes the pre-opening session with a gain of 58.3 points or 0.1 per cent at 59,346.6 and the Nifty50 settles at 17,383.3, down 9.5 points or 0.1 per cent from its previous close.

• Himanshu Gupta of Globe Capital Markets suggests buying Tech Mahindra shares for a target of Rs 1,150 with a stop loss at Rs 1,105.
• Avinash Gorakssakar of Profitmart Securities recommends going long on Mahindra & Mahindra for a target of Rs 1,500 with a perspective of 12-15 months. The company has at least two years of order book, and has the capacity to endure challenges in the near term given the possibility of the El Nino factor playing out, he says. Gorakssakar suggests buying the stock on declines. 
• Kunal Saraogi of Equity Rush has a 'buy' call on NTPC for targets of Rs 176 and Rs 179 with a stop loss at Rs 171. 
• Sumeet Bagadia of Choice Broking suggests buying HAL shares for targets of Rs 2,625 and Rs 2,650 with a stop loss at Rs 2,525. Momentum appears to be building up in HAL shares for potential upside and existing investors can hold the stock, he says.

Sensex finished 176 pts lower at 59,288 on Monday, Nifty50 sank below 17,400; both continued to fall for the 7th day in a row  

The Sensex finished a weak session on Monday 175.6 points or 0.3 per cent lower at 59,288.4, though having regained some ground from its intraday loss of more than 500 points.

The Nifty50 settled at 17,392.7, down 73.1 points or 0.4 per cent from its previous close, after moving broadly in the 17,300-17,450 band during the session.
