Stock market closing: Of 15 sectoral indices, 10 gain, 5 lose – know best performing shares, biggest duds on Monday

Even as Nifty50 witnessed lackluster trading on Monday managing to end just above the Friday closing, certain sectoral indices moved with great momentum. Nifty Auto took the lead followed by Nifty Realty and Nifty Media. We bring you a summary of individual indices which performed best and worst.
Nifty50 ended at 17,855.10, up by 2 points from Friday closing price.

Nifty Auto - It was up 3.2 per cent and was trading at 10,761.50. Meanwhile, out of the 15 shares in Nifty Auto, 12 stocks advanced and 3 declined. Maruti, Tata Motors and Bharat Forge were biggest gainers of the index. The top three stocks on Nifty50 were Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
Nifty Realty gained 3 per cent and was trading at 516.35. Prestige Estates was biggest gainer at 9.3 per cent upside from the last closing. The 10-share index has 7 advances and 3 declines. The top losers were Hemisphere Properties India Limited, Sobha Limited and Indiabulls Real Estate.
Nifty Media ended at up over 2 per cent at 2188.45. The 10-share index was evenly split in terms of gainers and losers. Inox Leisure shares gained 7 per cent, followed by D.B.Corp Limited. PVR shares also gained 5 per cent from the last closing on Friday. TV Today, SunTV were the two biggest losers.
Nifty Oil & Gas – The index ended at 7624.55 up 1.3 per cent. In the 15-share index, 10 stocks advanced, while 5 declined. The biggest gainers were Oil & Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), Reliance Industries Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Mahanagar Gas Limited, Castrol India Limited and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) were top losers on Monday.
Indices which ended with gains sub 1 per cent include Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Metal, Nifty Financial Services.
Nifty Bank was up 0.93 pr cent and trading at 38,183.90 at 3:15 pm. It was up 326 points. The biggest gainers were AU Small Finance Bank, RBL Bank and Bandhan Bank. Heavyweight HDFC Bank was the fourth biggest gainer at 1.4 per cent. ICICI Bank was up almost 1 per cent.
Nifty PSU Bank – In this 13-share index, 3 stocks gained while 8 declined and 2 stocks remained unchanged. It was trading at 2,368.75 around this time, up almost 0.5 per cent. State Bank of India (SBI) was the top performer with 1.3 per cent gains. It was followed by Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank (PNB). The biggest losers were Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB).
Biggest Duds
Nifty IT was the biggest dud among sectoral indices. It ended down 2.8 per cent at 36,064.85 amid profit booking. All 10 stocks declined on this index. Among heavyweights, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) lost 0.8 per cent while Infosys lost 2.3 per cent. Mindtree Limited and HCL Technologies were the biggest losers.
Nifty Healthcare also lost 1.3 per cent from the last closing on Friday. Only four stocks gained, while 16 declined. Lupin was up 1 per cent followed by Dr Reddy’s and Abbott India. The biggest losers were Apollo Hospital. Divi’s Laboratories, Dr Lal Path Labs.
