Opening Bell: Nifty above 17,300, Sensex gains over 200 points; auto, metal, IT shares shine
The Indian markets on Tuesday opened on positive note after closing for the three sessions in a row triggering more than 3 per cent correction in the benchmark indices.
The Indian markets on Tuesday opened on positive note after closing for the three sessions in a row triggering more than 3 per cent correction in the benchmark indices. The broader Nifty50 briefly surpassed 17,300 as the S&P BSE Sensex gained over 250 points in the opening trade on Tuesday. Headline indices Nifty and the Sensex opened at 17,279.85 and 57,799.67 respectively.
Maruti, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Bajaj Finserv, Titan, Wipro, Bajaj Finance and Tech Mahindra were among top gainers on Tuesday. Similarly, PowerGrid, HDFC Ltd, Nestle India, NTPC, L&T and HDFC Bank declined the most.

In the pre-open, the Sensex gained 178.48 or 0.31% to 57,799.67 as 23 shares advanced, 6 declined and one remained unchanged on the 30-share index on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, SGX Nifty hinted at flat to positive opening for the Indian markets as the Futures index was trading higher by 16.50 points or 0.10% to 17,230.50 at the Singapoean Exchange around 9.05 am on Tuesday.
Among the stocks, Bharti Airtel will be in focus as the telecom company will present the result for the quarter ended December 2021, while Adani Wilmar IPO will also make its debut on the bourses today. Vedant Fashions IPO will conclude today and the Reserve Bank of India's MPC meeting will commence on Tuesday after being postponed on Monday.
Earlier, Asian indices were trading mixed as Japanese Nikkei 225 was up 0.40%, Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Exchange was trading lower by 0.70% and Shanghai Composite flat with negative bias as the index traded 0.03% lower around 7.45 am.
The US market too ended mixed on Monday as the Dow Jones closed with 1.39% gain, Nasdaq Composite witnessed a cut of 0.58%, S&P500 declined by 0.37% and Russell 2000 was up 0.51%.
