Monthly sales of home grown e-commerce website, Flipkart were more than Amazon India in the month of June.

Flipkart said it had a monthly gross sales of more than Rs 2600 crore in comparison, Amazon India had sales of only Rs 2400 crore, a report by Live Mint said on Wednesday.

Recently Flipkart announced its Big 10 sale, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The period before GST also saw a lot of sales reeling in customers with attractive discounts of 50% or more.

Deals on iPhones and smartphones like Google Pixel and Moto Z were announced by Flipkart in June.

The report added that Flipkart’s May gross sales that included its Myntra and Jabong units were also higher than Amazon.

Online shoppers in India brought in revenues for e-commerce websites worth $15.5 billion, the report quoted RedSeer Management Consulting report. Further it added this was a growth of 5% from the March quarter and an increase of 19% YoY.

Smartphones account for 60-65% of Flipkart’s gross sales, the report said. Even in the recent Prime Day celebrated by Amazon, the company said it witnessed five times jump in sales.

The report added that Flipkart and Amazon sales were growing faster than the e-commerce market, implying that they are taking a large market share from rivals such as Snapdeal, which is on the verge of selling its assets.
