STPI invites bids for 33,530 BPO seats

Software Technology Parks of India today invited bids for 33,530 seats entailing maximum subsidy outgo of Rs 340 crore for business process outsourcing centres in small towns and north-eastern states.

The government will provide financial support of up to Rs 1 lakh per seat under two plans -- India BPO Promotion Scheme and North East BPO Promotion Scheme.

Many BPOs in the country hire 1-3 persons per seat.

"The maximum financial support is up to Rs 1 lakh per seat. Then, there are special incentives also under the schemes. We have provisioning of up to Rs 340 crore, if all seats in the bid qualify for Rs 1 lakh financial support as well as special incentives," STPI Director General Omkar Rai told
