Valentine’s Day 2024: Valentine’s Day is here. While many couples are spending some memorable time together on this special day, some will be sharing a romantic dinner over a video call from opposite sides of the globe. Long-distance relationships can be particularly challenging at any time of the year, but the separation can hit just that bit harder when Valentine’s Day rolls around.

As communication is key in any relationship, WhatsApp has several features that will help you stay connected, no matter the time difference. Here are five such features that can be helpful:

Tell them how you feel: Being apart can feel isolating, especially if your time zones make it difficult to call. More expressive than a text, share a voice message so they can listen at a time that’s convenient for them, and for extra privacy, you can send it as View Once so it can only be played one time.

Inside jokes: Take your inside jokes one step further by turning pictures into custom stickers, which you can now do in-app on iOS. Open your sticker tray, hit ‘create sticker’ and choose an image from your gallery to edit before hitting send.

Show your face: For when words won’t suffice, you can video call for free on WhatsApp, even if your loved one is in another country. Protected by end-to-end encryption, hit the video icon top right to start a call.

Let them know where you are: Make the distance seem less far by showing your partner where you are. Share your location with the added security of WhatsApps’ end-to-end encryption, so only they will be able to see where you are.

Save the special moments: By favouriting special messages with the star icon, you can easily look back at them when things feel a bit more distant.

And for extra peace of mind, all your personal messages on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted, which means no matter where you or your partner are in the world, nobody else can read your messages.
