India's homegrown mobile payment and e-commerce start-up Paytm has expanded its services into Canada's market by launching Paytm Canada App on Thursday.

Paytm's founder and chief executive officer Vijay Shekhar Sharma and Toronto Mayor John Tory made the announcement at the company's headquarters in Noida in India.

Paytm Canada App will allow users from the country to pay for their cell phone, cable, internet, electricity and water bills.

Moreover, users will also be able to pay for their insurance and property taxes by using the new Paytm Canada App.

“We are excited to announce that starting today, consumers in Canada will be able to access the seamless Paytm experience that is already well-known in India for its convenience. We are confident that Canada will be a very successful market for us,” Paytm Labs chief executive officer Harinder Takhar, said  in a press release. 

Paytm Labs, located in Toronto in Canada is the research and development division of Paytm and was founded in 2014. 

“With the Canadian app launch, we look forward to Paytm’s success and being an integral part to its growth story globally,” cited Toronto Mayor John Tory in a statement. 

Paytm Canada App will be available on both Google Play Store on Android phones and on Apple Store on iPhones.

Paytm is owned by the mobile internet company One97 Communications, which has more than 200 million users, and includes investors like Ant Financial, Alibaba Group, SAIF Partners and Mediatek, among others.
