He said that it will be worth watching if this trend sustains in the coming three-four days or not as weekend lag is always there. Still, if we count the total number of cases in the last three days, more than 11.50 lakh new cases have been reported, he added.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an important meeting and had discussed a lot of things regarding Covid 19. There is a plan to make oxygen from nitrogen plants. So, now the government is trying to identify how many nitrogen plants are there in the country which can be converted into oxygen plants.

Talking about the cases, it has been on a rapid hike continuously but Mumbai, where the cases initially started to peak in February end-March, but now, cases have been declining. Along with this, the positivity rate has also fallen below 10 percent. This means that if 100 people are getting tested then only 10 are Covid positive. Earlier this rate used to be 30-35 percent which is the case in Delhi now, Deepanshu said.

He added that the measures adopted to curb the spread in Mumbai are also being followed in other parts of the country. So we can expect the positive rate to fall in other states as well.

In Delhi, the lockdown has been extended to one more week followed by the announcement of a 1-week lockdown in Haryana and Goa till next Monday. Meanwhile, in Odisha, the state government has imposed a lockdown for 14 days.

In Bhopal, the corona curfew has been extended till May 10. While in West Bengal the restrictions have increased with a decision to shut restaurants, malls, cinema halls, parlours, etc. The shops will remain open in Bengal only 5 days a week that too for a limited time.

Talking about vaccines, Deepanshu said that on May 1 people between the age group of 18-44 years have started getting vaccination however, this drive has not been imposed in a greater force yet because of the shortage of the vaccines. On the first day almost 85,000 people have received the first dose of vaccination, he said. India has also received the Sputnik vaccine from Russia. This will give an alternative option.

The Supreme Court on Sunday has said that in the next two days the lack of oxygen in Delhi should be restored and has asked the central and state government to make a buffer stock of oxygen. This emergency stock needs to be prepared in 4 days.

Along with this, the court has also said that there should be no barrier or stoppage on spreading information regarding coronavirus on social media. If any action will be taken in this regard it will be taken as contempt of court.

The next hearing will be on May 10, where the court has asked the government to give an update regarding oxygen, remdesivir, and other essentials.
