In order to connect the fiber network of both the companies, BSNL and BSNL are merging, said Rajaraman. He informed that BSNL has 8 lakh KM fiber network. Whereas BBNL has 5 lakh KM fiber network.

With this merger, BSNL will now have complete control of 5.67 lakh km of optical fiber of BBNL spread across the country. The government will issue bonds worth Rs 23,000 crore for BSNL in the next three years. At the same time, the government will issue a bond of Rs 17,500 crore for MTNL in 2 years.

This will help the telecom company to upgrade to 4G.

Talking about the BharatNet mission/project, Rajaraman said that out of 2.2 lakh gram panchayats, the mission has reached 1.75 lakh gram panchayats. The work of wiping the fibers in the houses of these 1.75 lakh gram panchayats is going on. It will start in this year. BSNL is completely involved in it. "We believe that as BSNL, we will take forward the issue of fiber-to-home in the coming year," said Rajaraman.
