Supreme Court verdict on plea seeking 100 per cent verification of votes cast using EVMs with VVPAT slips: The Supreme Court has rejected petitions seeking 100 per cent verification of votes cast using electronic voting machines with voter-verifiable paper audit trail slips, stating that "blindly distrusting" any aspect of the system can breed unwarranted scepticism. "Democracy is all about striving to build harmony and trust between all institutions," said the apex court as voting was underway in several parts of the country under the second phase of a seven-phase polling process to elect a new government at the Centre.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said the move will create new educational and employment opportunities. “Supreme Court gave green signal to PM Modi’s 10 per cent EWS reservation quota, which will create new educational and employment opportunities. EWS reservation will be provided to the financially backward people who do not get covered into any caste reservations,” he said.“ We are also working on providing Maratha reservations in the state. Meanwhile, eligible people of the state can avail of benefits under the 10 per cent EWS reservation,” he added.
