FM Arun Jaitley suffering from kidney-related ailment, say sources

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is suffering from a kidney ailment and may have to undergo a surgery soon, resulting in cancellation of a visit to London next week for annual economic talks, sources close to the minister said.

7th Pay Commission: Putting forth the government view with regard to 7th Pay Commission report, the Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan stated that the government was not considering a hike in minimum pay beyond the recommendations of the panel, a DNA India report stated. Replying to a question in the Upper House of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, he said, "The minimum pay of Rs 18,000/- per month and fitment factor of 2.57 are based on the specific recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission in the light of the relevant factors taken into account by it. Therefore, no change therein is at present under consideration."

A group of 40 Indian workers, mostly from Punjab, and some Bangladeshi were taken hostage by ISIS when it overran Iraq's second largest city Mosul in 2014. Of the 40 Indians, one Harjit Masih from Gurdaspur had managed to escape and had claimed to have witnessed the massacre of the others. But the government rejected it. "His was a cock-and-bull story," Swaraj said adding he had managed to flee the ISIS by faking his identity as a Muslim from Bangladesh. The Indians were first kept at a textile factory in Mosul and after Masih escaped, they were moved to a prison in Badosh.
