Here's how you can stop Whatsapp from eating your phone storage

Whatsapp is one of the most popular and commonly used instant messaging applications. Not only text messages but the application also allows sharing and transfer of bulk media files like pictures, videos and audio files. However, the transfer of these files and media take a toll on your smartphone's storage capacity. There are temporary files that take up a lot of chunk of your storage and moreover, if the settings are set to default, all the media files you receive are downloaded into your smartphone. So if your smartphone storage is coming up till the rim with junk file, maybe it is time to tweak some settings and save some time on smartphone spring cleaning
For Android users, following are the steps to change your default settings:
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap on the three dot option on the top right corner
- Go to settings
- Tap on chats
- Look for media visibility
- Toggle it off
In case you are an iPhone user, follow the steps mentioned below:
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap on the Settings option on the bottom right corner
- Go to Data and Storage Usage.
- Choose when WhatsApp will automatically download photos, audio, videos and documents.
- Tap on each type of media, and choose Never, Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi and Cellular.
For changing the settings only for specific contact, for both Android and iPhone users, one can simply,
- Open the chat
- Tap on the three dot option on the top right corner
- Tap on view contact
- Tap on media visibility
- The app will then prompt you with "Show newly downloaded media from this chat in your phone's gallery?"
- Choose No
